Abstract

In this article, we examine TRANSITIVITY and InTRANSITIVITY in Standard Persian. traditional grammarians and linguists divide verbs into two or three groups: transitive, intransitive, and both transitive and intransitive. Here according to Hopper and Thompson (1980) TRANSITIVITY is considered as discourse-based phenomenon is divided into some components or features. The existence of two PARTICIPANTS. agent and patient, is only one of these components or features. TRANSITIVITY is a CONTINUUM. We can speak of low or high TRANSITIVITY.
