BIOMECHANICAL EVALUATION OF THE STRESS DISTRIBUTION OF THE LOWER JAW IN PATIENTS WEARING COMPLETE DENTURES USING THE FINITE ELEMENT METHOD (RESEARCH)

Abstract

 Evaluation of the lower jaw in COMPLETE DENTURE patients against forces and patterns of stress distribution was applied using a FEM three dimensional model of the lower jaw. The Model consisted of a lower jaw bone, covered by membrane, on which a lower denture was placed. The Mode was evaluated using a Sap. 90 software, regarding stress, starin and forces, under different occlusal contacts. Maximum compression stress was concentrated in the mandibular angle and maximum tensile stress was concentrated in the anterior part of condylar head and their location did not change with different patterns of occlusal contact. But, their magnitude did change with the change of the location occlusal contact. Under all circumstances the mandibular foramen region underwent a very low tensile and compressive stress which is most suitable for the physiology of the region.
