Abstract

For determining SHIRAZian cephalometric norms and comparing it with available standards. (Tweed-Downs-Steiner), 30 boys aged between 12-16 years of (averaged 13.8 y/o), that have been selected among 1536 SHIRAZian students. They all had: normal (CL I) occlusion and good intercuspation, normal overjet and overbite (1-2.5mm), minimum crowding or spacing, and they hadn't any history of pervious orthodontic treatment.Study casts, and lat. CEPHALOMETRY were prepared form all of the subjects. Cephalograms were traced twice and mean & S.D. of each measurement.Comparison of SHIRAZian norms with Downs &Tweeds standards revealed that: Facial angle and occlusal plan angle haven't significant different 1?ut,angle of convexity, A-B plane angle, Y-axis angle, IMPA, lower incisor to occlusal plane are more and interincisal angle is less in SHIRAZian samples than standards and have significant differences (P<0.01). Comparison of our samples with steinets standards showed that differences of ANB & 1 to NB & 1 to NA are significant in conclusion.There is a more convex profile in SHIRAZian children than Caucasian ones, due to existence of more preognathic maxilla, which is compensated with retrusion of upper ant. teeth, Results shows that it is necessary to have separate norms and standards in different races.
