SUSCEPTIBILITY ZONATION OF GEOLOGICAL FORMATION AGAINST EARTHQUAKE ENERGY IN SHIRAZ AREA USING GIS

Abstract

 Zagros is one of the most active seismic areas of Iran. The main subject to zonation of earthquake hazard in this hazardous area is analysis of feedback of geological units against earthquake energy. The object of this study that takes place in SHIRAZ area was analysis of behavior of geological formation against faulting and earthquake occurrence. For this propose was used geological formation layer, historical and 20th century earthquake data, and using GIS relation between formations with top considered variables studied. Result of this study indicates that Asmary calcium formation has maximum of faulting density and unclassified Asmary stones has maximum of faulting length. Frequency of seismic events in quaternary sediments was being more than Asmary formation and Jahrom Asmary stones. After analysis of formation behavior instead of seismic power weighted each of them and EARTHQUAKE HAZARD ZONATION map provided in five classes based on formation resistance.
