Abstract

Introduction: Transportation and rescue operations for casualties were not well- organized in the beginning of the imposed war by Iraq against I.R.IRAN. A chain of command was first established in the south, west and northwest of the country before health centers were created. In 1985, the decision for developing a concentrated system of transportation and rescue was made.In 1986, The TRANSPORTATION AND RESCUE BRIGADE was established to organize rescue and treatment operations. The brigade, having developed command centers to be able to operate by land, air and sea, managed to make considerable progress in rescue and transportation activities during the war and offered a great many martyrs to the Islamic Revolution. This article seeks to provide a brief HISTORY of the development and ORGANIZATION of this brigade during the war.Methods: Data were collected through interviews with those in charge of the brigade's developmental process and the files of the brigade's headquarters, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Crop's Health Department and The Center for War Documents.Results: It is clear that the process of rescue and transportation evolved significantly during the war, particularly after the brigade developed into an efficient integrated ORGANIZATION.Discussion: Development of The TRANSPORTATION AND RESCUE BRIGADE was an invaluable achievement of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Crop's and it is necessary that the experiences of the past be drawn upon in order to develop methods of rapid and highly effective assistance.
