Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationships between SENSATION SEEKING, leisure bordom, and SELF-ESTEEM with symptoms of CELLPHONE ADDICTION and patterns of cellphone use. To do so, students who were selected via partial stratified sampling, responded to self-report question-naires of CELLPHONE ADDICTION, SENSATION SEEKING, SELF-ESTEEM, along with questions about properties of their cell phone contacts. The results showed that LEISURE BOREDOM and SENSATION SEEKING have significant relationships with such an addiction, while self- esteem has no significant relationship with it. Stepwise regression analysis showed that SENSATION SEEKING is the best predictor of the addiction to cellphone. The effects of SENSATION SEEKING and leisure bordom on other addictions have been shown. This type of addiction can be used as a potential possibility to propagate community norms and reduce the damages of other addictions.
