Abstract

By comparing different definitions of SOCIAL CAPITAL, this analysis presents the definition of its own. The article surveys the sociological origin of the concept among the sociologists, looking at the factors contributing to the DEVELOPMENT of the concept from the perspectives offered by Putnam, Offe, Fuchs, Krishna, Uphoff, Para gal, Gilligan, Huq, and Mernissi. This is a comparative survey research method, carried out in TEHRAN using the questionnaire. Utilizing the factor analysis, the number of its components is reduced to four main factors. A theoretical model accounting for the formation of SOCIAL CAPITAL as well as the four factors affecting it is presented.
