Abstract

Usually, one variable may depends on another one and the change in one variable may causes a difference in the relation between the given variables. This relation which has been developed in individual minds is called FUNCTIONAL RELATION. This FUNCTIONAL RELATION resists change and hence it is called belief perseverance in social psychology. This is an implicit theory that people develop in their minds between psychological variable. FUNCTIONAL RELATION variables are developing via two abstract and CONCRETE DATA. In this research, this issue verified whether these relations were more perseverant in individual minds with abstract or CONCRETE DATA. Also, it explored whether implicit theories were more perseverant after long period and also the effect of theory perseverant was longer when primary data was abstract or concrete.Experimental and functional design was 2x2x2 (positive relation versus negative one, CONCRETE DATA versus abstract, descriptive versus indiscriptive). In each cell of functional design 28 subjects and total of 224 subjects took part. They were social psychology students. Experimental interventions were consisted of FUNCTIONAL RELATIONs which were developed in individual minds through a hypothetic story.Multifactorial analysis of variance showed that implicit.Theories were more perseverant with CONCRETE DATA (P<0.05) and the theory perseverant effect was longer when the primary data was concrete (P<0.01).Research findings suggested that there was a FUNCTIONAL RELATION in social cognition even if this relation was developed with hypothetic data. This relation remains in mind of individuals and it resists.
