Abstract

Analysis of LAND USE CHANGES in the areas around the LARGE DAMS specially at the top of the dam building and hydrology network is the main subject to evaluate environmental effects. In this paper, analysis of dam effects in SATTARKHAN DAM of Abar city was studied. Since, this dam supplies the water needed for agriculture applications, drinking water and also the water for lands under dam construction areas, it had considerable effects on the environment. The present study, using the results of reorganization of changed and unchanged areas from satellite images and combines them with the map of the dams building and other equipments, attempted to analyze the rate and extent of its effects in land use.The results of this research in GIS environment as thematic maps presented, indicated that SATTARKHAN DAM have two direct and indirect effects on its neighboring lands and environment. The changes of lands and agricultural levels to building applications and water surfaces are among the direct effects with very high injured indene’s and changes of dry farm lands and bear lands into gardens and development of urban areas are among its indirect effects which have low and very high injured indexes, respectively.
