THE EFFECT OF COGNITIVE GROUP THERAPY AND SPIRITUAL THERAPY ON DEPRESSION OF GIRL STUDENTS IN TEHRAN UNIVERSITIES

Abstract

 Aim: The main objective of this study is comparison of effects of two approaches cognitive group therapy (CGT) and SPIRITUAL THERAPY (SGT) among female depressed students of Tehran Universities.Method: The sample of the study 24 girl's students randomly selected through advertisement form in Hesarak Tarbiat Moallem University and Shahid Beheshty. Their DEPRESSION was measured with Beck DEPRESSION Inventory (BDI) and Psychiatric Interview. Then they divided to three groups randomly: 2 experimental group and one control group, none of the subjects was using drugs before any therapeutic intervention.The First group Participant in Ten Sessions Cognitive group Therapy and The second group participated in 10 session group therapy but with SPIRITUAL THERAPY approaches.The Third group had no Psychotherapeutic intervention as control group after group therapy the BDI Test was administrated then the data was analyzed t test to compare the 3 group means.Results show that the cognitive group therapy and spiritual group therapy were effective significantly (P<0/01) in reduction of DEPRESSION although spiritual group therapy was more effective than cognitive group therapy but the difference was not significant.Conclusion: Both CGT and SCGT was effective in reduction of DEPRESSION of girl students.
