Abstract

The Qom depression-Daryacheh ye Namak evaporatic basin is one of the extentional Neogene basins which is formed in a compressional regime in accordance with opening up of the Red Sea. The lightfaces of Miocene Sedimentary units, especially the Upper Red Formation, show subcontinent al-continental environment. The above mentionad basin in feeded by erosion of surrounding reliefs which are limited by fault boundaries in vicinity of Qom depression-Daryacheh ye Namak evaporatic basin. The outcrops evidences in the faults, controlling boundaries of the basin, such as calcareous boudins (often Qom Formation) along Siah kuh fault in the esat, Qom-Ravand fault in west and Maranjflb-Sefidab fault in south of the basin indicate a variation from transtension to transpression. These structural evolutions are in accordance with rotational of the blocks surrounding the basin. The characteristics of the Qom depression-Daryacheh ye Namak evaporatic basin indicate a pull apart basin formed by the activity of the Qom-Ravand basement curved fault. The study of pull apart basins are interesting not only as the view point of tectonic characteristics but also economic potentials, in this manner the Qom depression is not exception.
