SEDIMENTATION RATE IN THE APPROACH CHANNEL OF THE IMAM KHOMEINI PORT IN KHOWR-E-MUSA

Abstract

 Sedimentation in NAVIGATION CHANNELs is a major problem faced by any port authority. In this research, based on the field data on current, tide, and wave at five stations, the sedimentation rate has been predicted in the KHOWR-E- MUSA channel by using Sediment Transport models. Based on the hydrographic maps and dredging volume the sedimentation rate in the access channel was (0.000076) m3/s/m. Comparison of sedimentation rate models and the observed sedimentation rate, computes non-dimensional coefficient of a=0.88 for Biker’s model, b=0.86 for Van Rijn’s model and v=1.7 for Watanabe’s model indicating accuracy. Results showed that sediment particles are fine.
