Abstract

Within a context of rapid technoligical change and shifting market conditions, the world Educational Systemsare challenged with providing increased Educational Opportunities without increased budgets. Many Educational Institutions are answering this challenge by developing Distance Education programs. This paper examines new flexibility and innovation in Distance Education programs and delivery in terms of the possibilities now available for extending the body and the mind through information and communication technologies. As new communication technologies developed, Distance Education was delivered through such media as autdiotape, videotape, radio and television broadcasting, and satellite transmission. Microcomputers the Internet, and the World Wide Web (WWW) are shaping the current generation of Distance Learning, and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and knowledge systems may be next. Data analysis suggested that more than any other distance media, the Internet and the Web help to overcome the barriers of time and space in teaching and learning, and Educational uses of the Internet and WWW are burgeoning. Finally, the authors discuss Some helpful questions that are presented on topics such as Distance Learning in Cyberspace, Distance Learning processes, approaches, strategies and functions, the social nature of Distance Learning, effective Distance Education, methodology for cost -benefit analysis and comparing of distance education, Web - Based Learning and classroom instruction. The article is prepared by Dr. M.R.Sarkar Arani and Ali. R. Moghadam faculty members of Allameh Tabatabai university whose contributions is highly appreciated.
