Abstract

Background & aim: SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY is one of the postmodern therapeutic approaches in the area of family and marriage, which puts emphasis on finding solutions by the client in cooperation with the therapist. The current study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY on reducing COUPLE BURNOUT and improvement of the QUALITY OF LIFE of MARRIED WOMEN.Methods: The current research was of applied research; the method of the research was interventional and quasi-experimental which used pretest-posttest with a control group. The population of this research included all the women who attended the center of mental health helpers in Bojnoord, Iran, by the call of the researcher during the summer of 2014. After the initial interview and based on the criteria for inclusion and exclusion, among the qualified women, 30 women were selected by available sampling method and were replaced into two groups of experiment and control (15 for each group). For gathering the data, Pains COUPLE BURNOUT measurement 1996 (CBM) and the world health organization QUALITY OF LIFE questionnaire 1996 (WHOQOL) were used. After conducting the pretest, the therapeutic intervention (solution-focused brief therapy) was performed in 7 weekly two-hour sessions in groups for the experiment group, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The data were analyzed through MANCOVA (multivariate analysis of covariance) in the SPSS statistical software version 18.Results: After investigating the assumptions of covariance analysis, the results of this test indicated that after performing the brief solution-focused intervention, marital burnout among the women in the experiment group reduced by 17.53% in posttest stage, which was significant at 99% level (F=27.50). In addition, their QUALITY OF LIFE improved by 19.86% which was significant in 99% level (F=234.85). No significant change was seen in the control group. Conclusion: According the results, it could be concluded that the SOLUTION-FOCUSED BRIEF THERAPY was able to be effective in reducing marital problems. It is recommended that the family counselors would use this therapeutic method in order to resolve couple and family problems of the clients.
