Title

A STUDY ON THE PREVALENCE OF DEPRESSION IN STUDENTS OF YASUJ UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

Abstract

 The Cases included in this study were health and medical STUDENTs of Yasuj University of Medical Sciences in one semester of 1377-1378.241 STUDENTs were selected by class random sampling. The measurments were based on the standard test of Beck. The findings showed that the INCIDENCE of depesson (in terms of percentage) was 69.2% that included 41.2% mild, 17.3% moderate, 6.4% relatively severe and 4.2% severe cases of depession. The majority of cases with DEPRESSION were observed in paramedical STUDENTs (74.5%) and the least cases of DEPRESSION were seen in medical STUDENTs (60.8% ).The maximum average of DEPRESSION rate related to paramedical STUDENTs was 17.7 and the minimum average of DEPRESSION in medical STUDENTs was 13.7.There was a significant difference in the rate of DEPRESSION in STUDENTs with or without extra-curricular activites. 73.6% of STUDENTs who had no extra-curricular activities had DEPRESSION while 66.1 % of STUDENTs who had extra-curricular activities suffered from DEPRESSION. 75.3% of STUDENTs who had a poor job outlook suffered from DEPRESSION while 63.2% of the STUDENTs with a very good job outlook, had DEPRESSION. 74% of STUDENTs, with a moderate job outlook suffered from DEPRESSION.
