Abstract

The population parameters of green lacewing, CHRYSOPERLA CARNEA (Step h.) and its egg parasitoid wasp, TELENOMUS ACROBATES Giard were compared. The experiments were carried out at the conditions of 25±1 oC, 60±5% R.H. and a photoperiod of 16:8 h (L:D). The adults of C. carnea were fed with a mixture of honey and yeast in a portion of 1:1 and the adult wasps with a solution of honey and water in a portion of 10: 1. The 25 eggs of C. carnea were presented to a fertilized female wasp for 24 h. Thereafter, the eggs were taken and other ones were replaced. The eggs produced by C. carnea, were counted every day. The experiment was continued until the death of C. carnea and T. acrobats females. The eggs produced by C. carnea and the ones parasitized by T. acrobats were kept in a constant condition until the appearance of adult insects. Daily males and females that produced by each female were counted separately. In this study, there were 13 replicates for C. carnea and 12 for T. acrobates. The net reproductive rate (female offspring per female per generation) and INTRINSIC RATE OF INCREASE (female offspring per female per day) values were 148.8 and 0.129 in C. carnea and 24.79 and 0.194 in parasitoid, respectively. The mean generation time were obtained 38.93 days in C. carnea and 16.54 days in parasitoid. The population of parasitoid was doubled within 3.57 days while the C. carnea took 5.39 days. The finite rates of increase (daily multiplication of the females population) were 1.138 in C. carnea and 1.214 in parasitoid. The higher rate of INTRINSIC RATE OF INCREASE in T. acrobates demonstrates its ability to decrease the population growth and efficiency of C. carnea.
