Abstract

The cosmopolitan rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae (L.) is one of the economically important pests of stored rice in north of Iran. This insect feeds on cereal grains specially on different rice cultivars and damaged them. For this reason different experiments were conducted on its FOOD PREFERENCEs on 5 rice and paddy (Local Tarom, Neda, Nemat, Fajr, Khazar) varieties. Experiments were carried out performed in three treatments under laboratory conditions, at Temp 27±1oC and RH: 655%. The experiments were based on SUSCEPTIBILITY INDEX (S.I) rice cultivars to rice weevil. Under optional feedings, Local Tarom showed more susceptibility (with average of S.I 12.35) and under obligatory feeding, Local Tarom, Neda and Nemat were observed to be more susceptible (with average of S.I 11.58, 11.49, 10.11). Results of FOOD PREFERENCE studies based on SUSCEPTIBILITY INDEX (S.I) on different rice cultivar were analysed. For this reason, Amiloze percentage, total protein, Fat, Ash, Silica and grain humidity were measured. Maximum percentage of almiloze was relative Fajr and Nemat rice with average 11.03, 11.02 Also Maximum percentage of fat was on Fajr paddy with average 2.49 and maximum percentage of ash on Khazar paddy with average 6.75 and maximum percentage of silica on Nemat paddy with average 7.82, but amount of humidity was the same and there was no significant difference on level 1%. After statistical analysis, the relationship between the biochemical agents rate were measured and susceptibility of rice cultivars were indicated in some extent.
