DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF A MECHANICAL DIFFERENTIAL LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM

Abstract

 The majority of the tractor drivers in Iran are unaware about the real reason of the DIFFERENTIAL lock system, which has been left unutilized. Designing and developing an automatic mechanical DIFFERENTIAL lock control system for MF 285 TRACTOR is therefore necessary so that it could be utilized automatically whenever required. The force conservation unit and the three point linkage positioning sensor as major ports of the system are taken into account which are presented in this paper. The tractor body was left unaltered while designing the system. The developed system being a mechanical one, can withstand the tractor off- road severe operating conditions compared to similar electronically systems. The various filed tests indicate the suitable performance of the system. The tractor field tests without using mechanical DIFFERENTIAL lock control system show 33 percent and 13 percent slippage for the left and the right wheels respectively. The test results show that the wheels when slippage is adjusted to be 15 percent for both of the tractor wheels when mechanical DIFFERENTIAL lock control system is utilized.
