Title

EFFECTS OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON BUNCH FADING DISORDER, YIELD, FRUIT WEIGHT AND SIZE OF ‘KABKAB’ DATE

Pages

  57-66

Abstract

In recent years, fading disorder was one of the most important factors that produced some problems for DATE production. The disorder occurs very suddenly and rapidly in conversion of khalal to rotab stages, causing fade and eventually desiccation of DATEs berries. Recent studies showed that weather fluctuation especially sudden drop of air humidity in addition to high temperature and blowing hot and dry winds during transition from khalal to rutab stage have had significant influence on incidence and development of this disorder. This experiment was done conducted to study the effects of some PLANT GROWTH REGULATORs on BUNCH FADING DISORDER in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with nine treatments and four replications on ‘Kabkab' in Bushehr province during the years of 2002 to 2003. The treatments were gibberellic acid (100 and 150 mg l-1), ethephon (300 and 400 mg l-1), benzyladenine (100 and 200 mg l-1) naphthalenacetic acid (50 and 100 mg l-1) and control. The data of the two years were combined and analyzed and the means of the treatments were compared using Duncan’s multiple range test. Results showed that PLANT GROWTH REGULATORs had significant effects on fading disorder reduction. Although there was no significant difference between four PLANT GROWTH REGULATORs, NAA (100 mg l-1) had the greatest effects. Fruits weight, length and diameter were affected by PLANT GROWTH REGULATORs. However, the yield was not affected by these growth regulators.
