Abstract

Introduction: tuberculosis is the cause of about 1. 5 million deaths each year in the world and is placed at the tenth of the world's disease burden and it is expected to maintain its status by 2020. On the other hand, information associated to the death and its causes in order to assess the health status of the region and analyze the health plans and interventions seems necessary. Materials & Methods: In the present study, death data released from 2006 to 2010 in Iran which were published by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education were used. Death data from tuberculosis during the study period and mortality rate were determined based on age, sex, and location, and the deaths due to tuberculosis were determined. Data analysis was performed using Excel 2016 software. Results: In total, studying five years of deaths due to tuberculosis revealed 60. 7%, of death were in the male and 39. 3% were in female and the highest rate was due to pulmonary TB with 87. 7%. Additionally, deaths caused by tuberculosis was observed in urban areas more than the rural areas and in the age range of over 70 years, the highest death rates were observed. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that the death rate is decreasing due to the various types of tuberculosis, but this trend is very slow. In order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, basic measures such as education, disease screening, timely treatment should be considered.
