Abstract

The present research studied two types of memory states (episodic and semantic) in female Quran reciters and non - Quran reciters. This study included 180 Quran reciters, beginner and non-Quran reciters among female students in 3 educational grades: primary, secondary and high school. There were 60 subjects in each group and 20 subjects in each grade. fu episodic memory task; subjects learned sentences either verbally or by action. Then, subjects retrieved the sentences in free recall and cued recall tests. In semantic memory tasks, subjects were given two types of tests: letter frequency and category frequency. The main hypothesis were: 1) fu episodic memory, there is no difference between Quran reciter and non- Quran reciter students. 2) fu semantic memory, Quran reciter students perform better than beginner and nonQuran reciter students. The results showed that Quran reciter students had a better memory performance in both episodic and semantic tasks compared to other students. This finding was obtained in different types of scoring: sentences/verb and noun; strict and lenient. Superior memory for Quran learners increased by age (grade). These findings indicated that skill for learning Quran enhances memory for non-Quran information and this effect becomes more prominent by increasing of age.
