Abstract

Community Participation is indeed a rational and scientific approach to achieving sustainable MALARIA control with measurable collateral benefits. Determination of information, PERCEPTION and behavior requires to attain it. The study was conducted in randomly 51 clusters and 2168 housewives were interviewed.67.5% were illiterate and one third of respondents considered MALARIA as an important disease in the area.58.4% considered mosquitoes to be a cause of MALARIA. Total scores of KNOWLEDGE were fifteen and the mean of scores of rural and urban areas were 5.5 and 4.7 respectively. The awareness of rural housewives was higher than urban areas (P<0.001).The perceived severity and sensitivity of MALARIA in rural areas were higher than urban areas. 47.3% in rural and 14.3% in urban used bed nets always or sometimes. The -present investigation shows a correlation between the perceived role of mosquitoes in the transmission of MALARIA and use of nets. 19.9% of rural people and 73.8% urban people get the first treatment for fever and chills from the local health house and health center. About 23.6% and 18.8% of houses had window and door screens respectively, more in urban than rural areas. Fifty percent of rural people mentioned Behvarz as the main source of information and the role of physicians was minimal. Education played a significant role in increasing the awareness of subjects but didn't have an effective role in PREVENTIVE BEHAVIORs.Results showed that individual judgment and KNOWLEDGE has a significant role in PREVENTIVE BEHAVIOR and health education must be directed to get new education methods.
