Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the PREVALENCE of ANTERIOR OPEN BITE (A.O.B) in 12-15 years old students in Zahedan (2001). Because in this age permanent dentition is completed .The data were derived from clinical examination of 2300 samples (1016 females, 1284 meals), which selected randomly. Clinical examination was performed in natural light by dental mirror and ruler. We had a questionnaire for each sample . Variables were ANTERIOR OPEN BITE, breathing (mouth, nose, habitual), profile (straight, concave, convex),lower anterior facial high, finger sucking and TONGUE THRUSTING. The statistical analysis showed:Anterior open bite 1.6% (1.9% females and 1.3% meals). In samples with ANTERIOR OPEN BITE, MOUTH BREATHING (70.3%), TONGUE THRUSTING (27%), profile (54% concave, 46% straight) and high lower face (97.2%) .The result showed there were significant difference between male and female (high PREVALENCE in female). PREVALENCE of ANTERIOR OPEN BITE in our samples was less than the other cities of Iran.
