Abstract

In this article a procedure is proposed to incorporate junctional information in the estimation of TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY indexes obtained from PANEL DATA. In the first stage, an index of TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY was estimated using PANEL DATA on inputs and outputs. Then, the individual effects from the first stage were adjusted using cross-sectional information, to obtain a corrected TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY index. The model was applied to a panel of forty poultry farms in Sistan and Balochestan province, IRAN, where only cross-sectional information about input quality in the final year of panel was available.Technical and accounting data observed during the period 2001-2003 were taken into account in the study. Eviews 4.1 software was used to estimate production functions and to assess the TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY index. An analysis of variance was performed between some variables, either of the corrected or uncorrected indexes. The relationship between the index of TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY and several variables per lining to size and productivity were analyzed. For this analysis SAS6.2 software was used. Conclusions indicated that chicken feed, number of hens in start, and number of dead hens had the biggest statistically significant effect on production of hen meat. Results of analysis of variance showed that there was a statistically significant difference between size & productivity variables, and TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY both before and after correction which indicates that ADJUSTMENTs can make vary many of the results.
