AN ESTIMATION OF THE GENETIC COMPONENTS OF FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT RESISTANCE IN WHEAT (TRITICUM AESTIVUM L.)

Abstract

 Fusarium head blight (FHB), caused by plant pathogenic fungi of the genus Fusarium, is a major disease of WHEAT (Triticum aestivum L.) in the Northern parts of Iran. Although, several measures such as crop rotation and crop protection (via chemical and biological control) have been used to control Hill, the development of FHB resistant varieties is supposed to be the most economic and effective way of control. For estimation of genetic parameters of Fusarium RESISTANCE, eight WHEAT cultivars with different levels of RESISTANCE to FHB, were crossed in a DIALLELE fashion with no reciprocals. The F1s, and parental lines were evaluated under artificial inoculation during 2001 and 2002. Disease development was assessed by area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). The result of genetic analysis employing HAYMANS method revealed that additive - dominance model was adequate to explain the genetic variation for AUDPC. Variation for AUDPC was mostly determined by additive and dominance components of genetic variance.
