Title

REQUEST FAITH FROM FAITHFUL: HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF SHIITE COMMENTATOR S VIEW

Pages

  63-77

Abstract

Some verses of the Noble Qur’an request FAITH from human being. This demanding is indicated in various forms. In a verse it is said:  you who believe! Believe in…. This demand seems to be paradoxical so as the commentators have proposed different views to solve the apparent paradox. Most of them are convinced that one usages of the word ‘believe’ in “you who believe! Believe in …” is a metaphor. The common view among the shi‘ite commentators is that the first usage of the word is metaphorical. They said that the verse speaks to the hypocrites, and calls them to believe inwardly. By word “hypocrites they mean those religious people who admitted Ali as guardian only verbally but they never admitted him heartily and after the death of the prophet they denied it. Allamah Tabatabai has an especial innovation in interpretation of this verse. He says that the verse speaks to the FAITHful and calls them to believe in detail. He looks at this verse as a plan for prevention of discord and blasphemy in religious society.Analyzing historically the development of Shiite commentator’s views shows its theological bases and implications.
