Abstract

It is more than two decades that the theory of Fuzzy Logic has widely penetrated science as well as technology. Despite of this influence that has caused various benefits in practice, its fundamental concepts and philosophical view has not been investigated much. As a side effect of such a weakness, many scientists may think by mistake that the theory of fuzzy logic is an inherent contradiction and disapproves the law of non-contradiction. This paper is an attept to show how this theory adopts the evidence of that well-known law of existence. Although we believe that the law is a self-evident principle, the paper explains what has led to such a mistake. Misunderstanding the meaning of the principle, the range of concepts that the idea of fuzzy thinking can be employed to, and misinterpreting of fuzziness due to ambiguity or vagueness of concepts are discussed as basic reasons. This may adjust our perception of both the law of non-contradiction and the fuzzy logic.
