HUMIDITY SENSING PROPERTIES OF COPPER-SILICA AEROGEL

Abstract

 COPPER-SILICA AEROGEL PREPARED BY THE SOL-GEL METHOD AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS CALCINED AT 500OC FOR 3 HOURS TO OBTAIN A HYDROPHIL MATERIAL. THE RESULTING MATERIAL WAS CHARACTERIZED BY FTIR. THEN THE EFFECT OF HUMIDITY WAS INVESTIGATED ON SENSOR PERFORMANCE AT TEMPERATURE OF 25OC. IMPEDANCE CHANGED WITH TIME IN EVERY RELATIVE HUMIDITY BUT THE CHANGES ARE SHARPER IN THE FIRST MINUTES. MOREOVER THE DEPENDANCE OF IMPEDANCE TO THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY IN THE RANGE OF 11-85% WAS SHOWN IN A SEMI-LOGARITHMIC CURVE. THE SENSOR SHOWED GOOD SENSITIVITY TO HUMIDITY AND HAD TWO ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE CHANGE IN IMPEDANCE.
