SYNTHESIS OF NANOPARTICLES ZINC OXIDE FROM OF ZN2(OH)(PHENO)(P-BDC)15 .H2O

Abstract

 METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORKS (MOFS) ARE POROUS CRYSTALLINE COMPOUNDS AND A SUBCLASS OF COORDINATION POLYMERS (CPS) WHICH ARE CONSTRUCTED WITH METAL IONS OR CLUSTERS COORDINATED TO ORGANIC LINKERS [1].IN THIS WORK, WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PREPARED NANOPARTICLES OF ZNO USING ZN2 (OH) (PHENO) (P-BDC) 15.H2O, WHERE P-BDC=1, 4-BENZENEDICARBOXYLATE AND PHENO= PHENANTHROLINE-9, 10-DIONE, AS PRECURSOR. THE PRECURSOR WAS SYNTHESIZED ACCORDING TO THE LITERATURE [2] AND CHARACTERIZED BY POWDER X-RAY DIFFRACTION (PXRD). THE XRD ANALYSIS OF THE MOF PRECURSOR REVEALED THAT THE POLYMER IS CRYSTALLIZED IN THE ORTHORHOMBIC SYSTEM WITH THE SPACE GROUP OF PBCA AND POSSESS A 2-FOLD PARALLEL INTERPENETRATED 3D-3D NETWORK MOTIF. THE ASYMMETRIC UNIT CONTAINS TWO ZN (II) IONS, ONE HYDROXYL, ONE PHENO LIGAND, ONE AND A HALF P-BDC MOLECULES AND ONE SOLVENT WATER MOLECULE. ZNO NANOPARTICLES WERE SYNTHESIZED BY CALCINATION OF THE MOF PRECURSOR AT 600ͦC FOR 4 HOURS AND CHARACTERIZED BY FT-IR AND SEM. THE SEM IMAGE SHOWED THAT THE UNIFORM NANOPARTICLES HAVE SPHERICAL MORPHOLOGY WITH THE SIZE OF ABOUT 35-40 NM IN DIAMETER. FLUORESCENCE PROPERTIES OF THE MOF PRECURSOR AND ZNO NANOPARTICLES WERE ALSO INVESTIGATED. BOTH COMPOUNDS EXHIBIT FLUORESCENCE EMISSION AT THE RANGE OF 300-525 NM. INTERESTINGLY, THE FLUORESCENCE INTENSITY OF ZNO NANOPARTICLES IS HIGHER THAN THAT OF MOF PRECURSOR.
