NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF EFFECT OF PRESSURE AND CHANNEL INCLINATION ON TWO-PHASE GAS-LIQUID SLUG FLOW

Abstract

 IN THIS PAPER, SLUG REGIME IN TWO-PHASE GAS-LIQUID FLOW WAS SIMULATED IN A CHANNEL DUE TO ITS HIGH IMPORTANCE IN OIL AND GAS PIPLINE. FOR THIS PURPOSE, THE CONTINUITY, MOMENTUM EQUATIONS WITH EQUATION OF ADVECTION WERE SOLVED FOR THE INTERFACE OF TWO PHASES BY VOLUME OF FLUID METHOD (VOF) AND USING OPEN SOURCE OPEN FOAM SOFTWARE. FIRST, THE GROWTH OF SLUG WAS SIMULATED IN HORIZONTAL CHANNEL UNDER ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS, THEN THE RESULTS WERE COMPARED WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS. MOREOVER, THE INFLUENCE OF PRESSURE OF THE PIPELINE AND CHANNEL SLOPE WERE STUDIED ON THE SLUG FLOW. THE RESULTS OF THE SIMULATION WERE IN A GOOD AGREEMENT WITH EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS AND SHOWED THAT INCREASING THE PRESSURE OF PIPELINE, AS WELL AS THE NEGATIVE SLOPE OF THE CHANNEL DELAYED THE SLUG FORMATION AND HELPED TO DECREASE THE FLOW INSTABILITY.
