Abstract

Livability has become a major concern in urban management, especially in developed countries. Planning literature emphasizes the livability concept as both means and ends in the urban. environment Livability is a powerful instrument for attracting investment, talents and international recognition by the city. However, the livability concept entails questions on the relationship between livability and urban design of a city. This article treats two questions: (i) what is livability and what are its constituent components, both physical and intangible (contents)? And (ii) how livability is created and managed (processes)?
