Abstract

Introduction and aim: PARASITIC INFECTION is a common Health problem in Kerman state. Different parasitic infestations are transmitted to humans by eating contaminated food like VEGETABLES. This study was done to estimate the prevalence of parasitic contamination of commonly consumed VEGETABLES in JIROFT.Material and methods: This study is cross sectional study in nature. The JIROFT city is divided to ten areas and 2 gardens from each were selected randomly. In each garden, samples were taken from 8 types of commonly consumed VEGETABLES. Total 160 samples were examined by sedimentation technique.Results: The prevalence of contaminate of VEGETABLES by giardia, taenia hymenolepis nana, ascaris, entamoeba histolytica, coccidia, fasciola hepatica and fasciola gigantica were 14%, 13.7%, 2.5%, 0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8%, 1.8% respectively. 21% of samples were contaminated with at least one of the parasitic pathogen. Conclusion: Considering the high prevalence of the parasitic infestation of VEGETABLES, it is necessary to provide health education regarding prevention of contamination and transmission.
