Title

HISTOLOGICAL AND HISTOMETRICAL CHANGES OF OVARIAN CORTEX OF MOUSE FOLLOWING THE USAGE OF MORPHINE

Pages

  90-96

Abstract

Although there are many reports about the effects of MORPHINE on female genital system, there are not enough studies on the effects of MORPHINE on the ovarian cortex of MOUSE. Therefore, to the importance of ovaries it is necessary to do research on the histology and histometry of the effect of these substances in the cortex of OVARY. In this study, 32 mice (Balb/c) at the age of 6 weeks were selected and divided into two experimental groups (A and B) and one control and one sham groups. Initially 0.04 and 0.4 mg/ml MORPHINE solution in water was gradually fed to experimental groups and for the control group only solution of water and sugar and for intact group only water were used for 21 days. After the end of the experiment, mice were anesthetized by chloroform and the ovaries were removed from body, and for HISTOLOGICAL and HISTOMETRICAL studies, sections were cut and stained by H&E. Statistical results showed that MORPHINE in puberty can significantly reduce the number of secondary and mature follicles and increase the number of atretic follicles (P<0.001). The thickness of tunica alboginea was increased in the experimental groups to controls (P<0.05). Therefore, these results showed that probably the use of MORPHINE in puberty in female mice can make some changes in ovarian function.
