Abstract

 The gamma cell PX-30 IRRADIATION facility has been equipped with the 60Co radioactive sources having an activity of 4 kCi and the DOSE-RATE of 0.675 Gy/sec. The system is used for IRRADIATION of different samples for the purpose of research activities. In this experiment the possibility of extending the range of applications of the system with the use of design and construction of ATTENUATORs, made of lead for reducing the DOSE-RATE in the IRRADIATION chamber has been investigated. With the use of Fricke reference dosimeters, the range of DOSE-RATE IRRADIATION distribution along with the DOSE-RATE at different points of the IRRADIATION reference for the new volume has been determined. Our data analyses indicating that by considering the loading capability of electromechanical system designed for handling the lead ATTENUATORs, we can reduce the required DOSE-RATE in air to the half value of it initial rate to be applied for IRRADIATION of different samples in a given volume.
