Abstract

Air pollution and uncontrolled energy consumption in big cities such as Tehran have led the government to initiate various corrective initiatives and projects in recent years. One of these projects is the old vehicle retirement program, since these cars pollute the air and have high energy consumption. The aim of this paper is survey the effects of old vehicle retirement program. In this study, we focus on 500 owners of old cars (Reno and Peikan) who participated in the old vehicle retirement program to assess the various benefits of this program. The research shows the old vehicle retirement program to have many benefits for the society at large and participants including lower levels of air pollution and energy consumption.
