Abstract:

Background and Aim: Studying scientific outputs by using scientific indices is a useful tool for understanding scientific research. The purpose of this study was to visualize the international research outputs of the SMA subject Area. Materials & Methods: This study is an applied one with an analytical approach and using scientometric indices. The population present in this study includes 4217 Web Of Science database records all in the SMA area from 1946 until the end of 2018. The MeSH was used to identify keywords and Ravar PreMap software for words’ homogenization, VOSviewer, HistCite, and Excel used also. Results: Ninety-one countries involved in scientific production outputs of this subject area, were among the most influential countries in scientific collaboration. The USA has most of its collaborations with other countries. Of the 946 essential journals identified, "Human Molecular Genetics" has got the highest number of citations. The articles in the SMA Subject Area have a total of 6097 keywords, and the “ Spinal Muscular Atrophy” has got the highest frequency and the core subject among the nine influential countries. The total number of articles in this area was 8505. Worthy of mentioning, Iran with 0/58% of the total scientific output ranked nine on the list. Conclusion: The upward trend of SMA scientific research trend indicates the increasing importance of this area in the world. Due to the the international growth of research in this area and the importance of the participation of international research, researchers in our country should pay more attention to scientific cooperation.

Abstract:

Aim: Pathway analysis of gastric Atrophy to find new molecular prospective of disease. Background: Gastric Atrophy as a process which is accompanied with “ loss of glans” in stomach can be considered as a risk factor of gastric cancer. Here, the correlated biochemical pathways to the disorder have been analyzed via protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis. Methods: The genes related to gastric Atrophy were retrieved by STRING database and organized in a network by Cytoscape. Three significant clusters were determined by ClusterONE plug-in of Cytoscape. The elements of cluster-2 which contained all central nodes of the network were enriched by ClueGO and the biochemical pathways discussed in details. Results: The number of seven central nodes (which are included in cluster-2); INS, TP53, IL6, TNF, SRC, MYC, and IL8 were identified. The biochemical pathways related to the elements of cluster-2 were determined and clustered in nine groups. The pathways were discussed in details. Conclusion: Pathway analysis indicates that the introduced central genes of the network can be considered as biomarkers of gastric Atrophy.

Abstract:

Purpose: To assess the etiologic profile of optic Atrophy in patients referred to Farabi Medical Center. Methods: In this descriptive study, exisiting data of 100 cases of optic Atrophy were studied. The etiology of optic Atrophy were divided into eight groups based on symptoms and paraclinic studies: compressive, ischemic, traumatic, toxic, hereditary, inflammatory, miscellaneous, and undetermined. Results: The most common cause of optic Atrophy was compression (33%) and the most common compressive lesion was pituitary adenoma (33% of all compressive lesions). The second prevalent etiology were ischemic lesions (25%) with ischemic optic neuropathy as the main disease entity (96% of all ischemic lesions). Compressive lesions were the most common cause of bilateral optic Atrophy and ischemic lesions were the most common cause of unilateral optic Atrophy. Conclusion: Compressive lesions are the most common cause of optic Atrophy under 40 years age and ischemic lesions are the most common cause above 40 years age.
