Abstract: 

Despite the variety of electronic resources, textbooks continue to be the main medium of language teaching. Thus, criticizing them can improve the quality of education. This paper reviews the 1st volume of the 2nd Edition of “ Farsi Biamuzim” , based on a set of standards and criteria for evaluating academic textbooks. Among the five criticism axes of structure, content, language, method, and society and culture, the advantages of this work can be found in the general way of teaching the alphabet, providing innovative exercises, selecting practical topics, and designing useful topics in the content of lessons. Its disadvantages can be attributed to the structural inconsistency of the book in the instruction of letters and grammatical materials and the lack of a list of sources and a defect in its list of contents.

Abstract: 

Despite the reputation and importance of Zamakhshari's Muqaddimat al-Adab, one of the oldest extant Arabic-Persian Dictionaries and a rich source of Persian equivalents of Arabic terms, it has not received considerable attention from scholars. The reason is probably the lack of a meticulous authentic Edition of this book. Therefore, the two existing Editions of this dictionary need to be emended to remove errors and defects. This paper aims to provide a critical Edition of Muqaddimat al-Adab, and at the same time, focuses on a series of critical notes of the two Editions of the book; notable among them are the following: Lack of a detailed introduction of the author and lexicographical method; insufficient description of the manuscripts; no editorial methodology for editing the manuscripts; no reference to the manuscript variants; incorrect recording of entries and their equivalents as a result of misreading the inscription; false etymological explanations; and irregularities within the Arabic and Persian indexes. Finally, with the new discovery of some authoritative and rare ancient manuscripts, a comprehensive critical Edition of Muqaddimat al-Adab is essential.

Abstract: 

In 1952, the American Psychiatric Association's Committee on Nomenclature and Statistics published the first Edition of diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-I). Five Editions have been published since then: DSM-II (1968), DSM-III (1980), a revised DSM-III, DSM-III-R (1987), DSM-IV (1994), and DSM-IV-TR (TR stands for Text Revision) (2000). The purpose of this article was to present a brief review about changes in DSM (from DSM-IV-TR to DSM-5). Publication of the fifth Edition of diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-5) in May 2013 will be marked as one of the most anticipated events in the mental health field. As part of the development process, based on concerns about the reliability of the proposed attenuated psychosis syndrome and mixed anxiety depressive disorder in the field trials, these two conditions are being recommended for further study in section III. A footnote was also added to the major depressive disorder criteria to clarify the difference between normal bereavement associated with a significant loss and a diagnosis of a mental disorder. Among the other significant changes in this study was personality disorders diagnostic criteria for pedophilic disorder which was modified. Communication disorders now include two diagnoses: Language disorders and speech disorders. Simple somatic symptom disorder was a milder form of complex somatic symptom disorder; the two have now been combined as a single disorder namely somatic symptom disorder. Nonsuicidal self-injury disorder and persistent complex bereavement disorder. In the fifth Edition of diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-5) that has been published in May 2013, there are several significant changes in diagnostic criteria, some classifications, subscales, and proposed new terms.

Abstract: 

This article starts with two preliminary remarks. One has to do with the rate of participation of curriculum specialists in the development process which is deemed to be utterly inadequate. The second preliminary observation deals with the very title chosen for this document. The title, it is argued, is not a mere nominal element but is conducive to misconception of the substance of the document. The author believes that contrary to what current title entails, the document itself is not “a national curriculum”, rather, it is “national curriculum framework” addressing major policies and strategies with respect to school curriculum. The main body of the article, however, is a detailed critical reading of two major curriculum policy embodied in the document. The first, concerns with the issue of decentralization or what the author refers to as emancipation scheme. This issue is considered to be the reason d’être of efforts at devising the national curriculum framework in Iran which conducts its educational operations within a centralized scheme. The statements included in the document are assessed to be qt best confused. The second issue discussed and evaluated in this article is a critical design issue, namely curriculum integration. Observations made to this end, points to the insufficient and superficial encounter of developers with this influential aspect of curriculum with transformative impact on the culture of schools.
