The effect of number of mating on longevity and FECUNDITY of the predatory mite Euseius scutalis Athias-henriot was studied under laboratory conditions (at 25±1 ºC, 60 ± 5 % RH and 16: 8 L:D). Newly emerged adult females (less than 24 h) were held individually in a 9 cm arena. A male (less than 24 h) remained with a female for limited periods of time or continuously. Four treatments were designed: virgin females, single mated females, multiple mated females (female had access to a male every five days), multiple mated females (female had continuous access to a male). Mating was necessary for oviposition. Virgin females lived the longest (25 days). However, no significant differences were found among longevity of mated females (12- 15). Similarly, no significant differences were detected among FECUNDITY of females with different numbers of mating (18- 22 eggs). Sex ratio was significantly female-biased in progeny of single mated females and multiple mated females with periodic access to male. However, no significant difference was found in sex ratio of progeny of multiple mated females with continuous access to male.

This study was done as a part of “ Lar Reservoir Fauna investigation Project” which was carried out at 2008-2009. FECUNDITY index was considered as one of the biological factors. Fish were caught from four rivers (Delichahi, Ab-Sefid, Elarm, Kamardasht) which inflow into the Lar Dam, using electroshocker. Fish were then measured weight and length, and their age were also recorded. The average body weights, length and age of fish group was 135. 46± 60. 73 g (mean weight± SD), 216. 44± 33. 64 mm and 3. 21± 0. 94 year, respectively. The absolute FECUNDITY was deterrmined between 183 to 1088 with an average of 521. 7± 180. 8 eggs per fish and the relative FECUNDITY was determined as 1. 35 to 10. 15 by an average of 4. 23± 1. 47 eggs per body weight. The absolute FECUNDITY was increased while the fish size and age was increased. However, the maximum absolute FECUNDITY was obtained on fish those had maximum age (5-year old) by average mean FECUNDITY (693. 6± 296. 4). Among related factors to absolute FECUNDITY, the highest correlation coefficient was found in body weight (r=0. 635).

Perinereis nuntiais one of the best live foods for Penaeid shrimps broodstock in the world. In this study some biological characteristics of P. nuntia including: sex ratio, FECUNDITY, FECUNDITY-weight correlation and oocyte diameter were studied. Sampling was done monthly in one-year period from January 2012 to December 2013, at 3 stations in the coastal zone of Bandar Abbas. The results showed that the highest frequencies of males and females occurred in March, April and May due to the fact that this species is semelparous and population of adults sharply drops in June. Sex ratio of this species was 1: 1. Minimum and maximum absolute FECUNDITY were observed in a 642 mg specimen with 49006 eggs and a 1626 mg specimen with 393245 eggs, respectively; and mean FECUNDITY of this species in the coastal waters of Bandar Abbas was 192344±94716 eggs per each adult. The correlation between total FECUNDITY and weight of 200 polychaete worms was calculated as y=255.42 x-74904 with 0.736 correlation coefficient. The maximum mean of oocyte diameter was 255 μm observed in the last stage of sexual maturation (stage 4). This species can be considered as a suitable species for propagation and culture due to high rate of FECUNDITY.
