The study area is located north of Birjand and is a part of Sistan suture zone. In this study, ichnofossils of the Paleocene-Eocene Flysch sediments have been investigated. The studied succession begins with basal conglomerate and follows with shale, marl and limestone beds. The upper part of sequence is composed of numerous interbedded shale and sandstone (Flysch type sediments) that contain a lots of ichnogenera .The following ichnogenera have been identified Cosmorhaphe sinuosa, Cosmorhaphe isp., Golckeria sp., Halopoa isp. (Fucusopsis sp.), Helminthoida sp., Helminthorhaphae japonica, Megagrapton irregularis, Megagrapton isp.1, Nerites isp., Ophiomorpha annulata, Ophiomorphae sp., Paleodictyon majus, Paleodictyon strozii, Paleodictyon isp., Paleophycus isp., Planolites sp., Scolicia prisca, Scolicia strozzii, Scolicia isp. 1, Scolicia isp. 2, Scolicia isp. 3, Skolithos isp., Spirophycus isp., Subphyllochorda isp., Thalassinoides isp. And Urohelminthoida appendiculata the paleoecological factors such as the oxygen and depth of basin have been interpreted based on identified ichnogenera and their abundance. Moreover the ethological behaviors of ichnofossils have been studied.
