Abstract:

BIG DATA HAS BECOME OF HIGH INTEREST IN RECENT YEARS DUE TO ACCESS TO LARGE SCALE DATA AND SIGNIFICANT ADVANCES IN LARGE SCALE DATA MINING AND DATA ANALYTICS. NATURALLY, AMONG WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS OF BIG DATA ANALYTICS, MOBILE OPERATORS HAVE ALREADY SECURED A LARGE PART OF MARKET. ALTHOUGH EXTRACTING INFORMATION FROM MOBILE OPERATORS DATA IS BASED ON VARIOUS TYPES OF HETEROGENEOUS DATA GATHERED IN SUCH NETWORKS, ITS ROLE HAS SO FAR BEEN MAINLY RESTRICTED TO CONTENT EXTRACTION, CUSTOMER SEGMENTATION AND MONETARY OBJECTIVES. IN THIS WORK, WE WILL INVESTIGATE HOW BIG DATA CONCEPTS CAN LEAD TO PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT IN SUCH NETWORKS, A CONCEPT THAT UP TO NOW IS HARDLY EXPLORED IN SUCH NETWORKS.

Abstract:

This paper investigates joint user association, sub-channel assignment, and power allocation in the uplink of multi-user orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) of a heterogeneous network (HETNET) where users are subject to maximum transmission power constraints. It is shown that the underlying problem is a highly non-convex mixed integer non-linear problem. To tackle the problem, the integer variables are relaxed and a penalty function is added to the objective function to make sure that the relaxed variables take binary values. Finally, the objective function is rewritten as the difference of two convex (D. C. ) functions and the resulting problem is addressed through using the successive convex approximation method. It is worth mentioning that, to the best of the author’ s knowledge, the problem of joint user association, sub-channel allocation, and power control in the uplink of a heterogeneous network has not been addressed in the literature till now. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over existing works in terms of achieving higher throughput despite exhibiting a higher complexity.

Abstract:

In this paper, we study the spectral efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE) of wireless-powered full-duplex (FD) heterogeneous networks (HETNETs). In particular, we consider a two-tire HETNET with half duplex (HD) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) macrocell base stations (MBSs), FD small cell base stations (SBSs) and FD user equipments (UEs). UEs rely on energy harvesting (EH) from radio frequency signals to charge their batteries for communication with serving base stations. During the energy harvesting phase, UEs are associated to MBSs/SBSs based on the mean maximum received power (MMP) scheme. In the consecutive data transmission phase, each UE downloads packets from the same MBSs/SBSs, while uploads packets to the nearest SBSs using the harvested energy. We use tools from stochastic geometry to develop an analytical framework for the average UL power transfer and the UL and DL coverage probability analysis. We further investigate the EE of the proposed DUDe scheme to demonstrate the impact of different system parameters on the EE. Finally, we validate the analytical results through simulation and discuss the significance of the proposed DUDe user association to improve the average DL and UL SE in the wireless-powered FD HETNETs.
