This article consists of several basic sections. The first section considers, in brief the movement of cultural associations in Kuwait which began in 1920s, continued in 1950s and strengthened after Independence in 1962. The section, also, mentions the factors of the rapid growth of the Kuwaiti cultural movement. The second section contains a list of the Kuwaiti poets and poetesses. The third section discusses the subjects of the Kuwaiti poetry; the society, the central mater of the Arabic world; Palestine. The historical sequence is considered here.

General understanding is that the idea of occupying Kuwait was born in 1990 when Kuwait was occupied and annexed to Iraq. However, Iraq’s Baath Party statesmen dreamt about occupying Kuwait or parts of it since they snatched power in 1968. During that 22-year period, they did not relinquish their territorial claims to Kuwait and raised them at any opportunity. Geopolitical constraints constitute the most important problem that Iraq faces in the Persian Gulf. Iraq’s access to the Persian Gulf waters is very limited. Baath Party leaders were aware of this problem and were trying to solve it. They believed that Iran’s Khuzestan province and Kuwait could eliminate Iraq’s geopolitical constraint. Since Iraq had not been able to achieve its goal of dissociating Iran’s Khuzestan province through eight years of war with Iran, when that war was over, Baghdad pursued its second goal; that is, occupation of Kuwait.

This paper presents the application of the SWMM model to estimate the runoff due to rainfall over urban areas in Kuwait. The SWMM provides a powerful tool, in terms of its graphical capabilities and fast convergence to optimal design parameters for large urban areas. More importantly, simulation of the dynamic wave resulting from the urban runoff-transport phenomenon leads to a more accurate design for the storm drainage system, which, in Kuwait, has traditionally been based on the Rational Method. The results of this study confirm the quantitative viability of harvesting the otherwise lost runoff towards providing an additional water resource in Kuwait. A preliminary analysis of storm water quality also confirms its qualitative viability. A carefully designed, comparative questionnaire was used to solicit public opinion from various layers of society. The findings clearly indicate a strong public support in favor of using harvested storm water versus recycled waste water. Given the semi-arid nature of Kuwait, multiplicity of fresh water resources is vital. This study presents harvested storm water as a strong vital option. The strategic decision, vis-a’-vis the optimal combination of fresh water resources, should be based on thorough technical and financial analyses. Resorting to the SWMM in designing storm drainage systems instead of the Rational Method will certainly minimize the ill effects of flooding, as recently experienced in Kuwait.
