Abstract:

A four- year-old Moghanian breed ewe was admitted to the large animal veterinary clinic, University of Tabriz due to dystocia. During obstetrical examination, it was revealed that the cervix has been closed firmly and vagina protruded about 5 cm through the vulva (vaginal prolaps). Based on clinical findings and for saving the dam and Lamb(s), the cesarean section was done. A normal alive female Lamb twin to a monster dead male was delivered. According to the facial deformity, the monster twin was diagnosed as Cyclops Lamb. This is the first report of a Cyclops Lamb’s giving birth twine to a normal Lamb from Iran.

Background and Objective: Metallic green sheen and lactose fermentation has been used for identification and differentiation of E. coli from other Enterobacteriaceae in laboratories for many years. However, these methods defect to accurate diagnosis of E. coli. This study employed Lamb gene PCR amplification to distinguish E. coli and Shigella from other Enterobacteriaceae isolated from clinical samples and surface waters, collected in Babol, Iran.Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 100 clinical samples from patients attending health centers and 30 surface water samples were gathered in Babol. All samples were grown on blood agar and Eosin methylene blue. After first biochemical identification, DNA of the samples were extracted and Lamb gene was amplified using the PCR reaction. Results: After cultivation of the samples on blood agar and eosin methylene blue media and biochemical identification of the strains, it has been shown that all 40 isolated E. coli and 30 Shigella carry the Lamb gene. However, none of the Salmonella and Klebsiella strains showed the related band. Conclusions: According to the findings of this study, investigation of Lamb gene is an appropriate method for initial isolation of E. coli and Shigella from other Enterobacteriaceae.

Abstract:

Lipoma is a benign tumor of well-differentiated adipocytes that has been reported in some domestic animals. Omental lipomas in human and domestic animals are rare and reported as a case report. This study aimed to report an omental lipoma in a slaughtered sheep. In the observational examination of a sheep in a slaughterhouse in Tehran Province, Iran, and during the inspection of the abdominal area, a mass was seen on the greater omentum. The mass was sampled and placed in 10% formalin for histopathology. The mass was single, soft, dense, capsuled, oval, weighing 150 g, and 4.5×3.5 cm in size. Microscopic examination showed omental mass composed of uniform and mature lipocytes encased within a thick layer of immature connective tissue. The final diagnosis was primary benign lipoma. Lipoma can occur anywhere in the body where there are fat cells, and probably obesity and trauma are important risk factors for its occurrence. The size of the lipoma mass may help predict the age of the mass.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of using portulaca oleracea as a source of plant antioxidants for feeding fattening male Lambs, on carcass traits, meat quality, and oxidative stability. Twenty-one male Lambs with an average weight of 24±1.5 kg and 150±15 days old were fed with one of the experimental rations included a diet without portulaca oleracea as control, a diet containing 7.5%, and a diet containing 15% portulaca oleracea, for 84 days. The muscle (Longissimus dorsi) samplewas used to determine pH, chemical composition, colorimetric properties, and oxidative stability of meat. Meat lipid oxidation was determined after 1, 7, and 30 days of refrigerated storage using thiobarbituric acid (TBARS). The use of portulaca oleracea in diets improved meat color characteristics such as L, chroma, and Hue. The highest ash concentration and the lowest meat moisture were observed in the treatment of 15% portulaca oleracea (P<0.05). Meat pH was the lowest in the first hour after slaughter but did not differ at 24 h. Compared to the control, in both treatment groups feeding the Lambs with portulaca significantly reduced the concentration of Malondialdehyde in the meat of the Lambs and increased the meat oxidative stability (P<0.05). The results of this experiment showed that feeding portulaca oleracea by improving properties such as color and increasing the meat oxidative stability improves meat quality, which may have lead to an increase in its nutritional value in terms of human health.

Abstract:

Constitutive model of passive myocardium of Lamb: Experimental tests and equations on the continuum mechanics are used in order to obtaining the constitutive models of soft tissue using in predictive heart simulation. Considering the myocardium as one of the important tissues, in this paper first the morphology and structure of myocardium has been reviewed and the mechanical response of passive form of this tissue has been investigated. The myocardium of left ventricle was considered as non linear elastic, in-compressible and non homogeneous material and using of bi-axial test in 3 Lambs myocardium on fiber direction; a constitutive model of this tissue has been proposed. The model so constructed is then evaluated against the biaxial data, and values of the material constants have been obtained by curve fitting so the final model states the strain-energy function as cauchy's invariants which can be helpful in heart simulation.

Abstract:

Congenital agenesis of lumbar vertebrae was diagnosed in a day-old female Lamb based on radiology and clinical examinations. There was no neurological deficit in hindlimb and forelimb associated with standing disability. Radiography of the abdominal region revealed absence of lumbar vertebrae. Necropsy confirmed clinical and radiographic results. No other anomaly or agenesis was seen macroscopically in the abdominal and thoracic regions as well as vertebral column. Partial absence of vertebral column has been reported in human and different animal species, as an independent occurrence or associated with other organs anomalies. The latter has been designated as caudal regression syndrome. Vertebral agenesis may arise from irregularity in the differentiation of somites to the sclerotome or sclerotome to the vertebral primordium. Most of the previously reported cases of agenesis were related to the lumbosacral region, lonely or along with other visceral absences. This case was the first report of congenital agenesis of lumbar vertebrae in a Lamb.

Abstract:

Caudal duplication is an abnormality which usually affects the digestive, urogenital and even respiratory systems. It forms a graded series from slight duplication to near separation of two fetuses caudocranially. In some conjoined twins, duplication process may cranially proceed up to the head region. This kind of developed conjoined monocephalus twin has been reported in many domestic species and is classified as thoracopagus or omphalopagus twins according to the presence of one or two hearts, respectively. A male dead conjoined monocephalus twin Lamb attached from neck to thorax was used for this study.Lateral and dorso-ventral digital radiography and anatomic dissection were performed on the case. The results showed that duplication process of the gastrointestinal tract interestingly prevented cranial to the midgut, while more cranial organs such as heart, lungs and even brain were seen duplicated. Duplication anomaly has been mostly reported cranially in cattle and caudally in sheep. Nevertheless, if duplication process does not occur completely, some body organs of the resulting conjoined twin will remain unduplicated. Duplication process of this case is thought to strengthen Spencer’s spherical theory.

Abstract:

A 4 months male Lamb with the weight of about 8 kilogram was referred to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, University of Mashhad in winter 2012. Some hours before referring, shepherd had observed tremor, paresis and falling in the Lamb. In survey of vital signs and physical examination of the animal, obvious edema of upper eyelids and muzzle, tremor, paleness of conjunctiva, absence of menace reflex, blindness, hypothermia, tachypnea, incoordination on walking, knuckling of the fetlocks and finally sternal recumbency were revealed. After careful review of the case history and perforning some laboratory tests on whole blood, serum and cerebrospinal fluid, ivermectin toxicosis (drug overdose) was diagnosed. There is no specific antidote for this toxicosis, so supportive and symptomatic treatments were performed. The farmer slaughtered the Lamb two days later. In autopsy, except for emaciation and mild ascites no macroscopic lesions were observed. Up to the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of ivermectin toxicosis in Lamb in Iran and possibly in the world.

Abstract:

When watershed input, evatransporation and ground water usage be limitated, recession curve showed storage– output relationship for basin. This relationship can help us in low flow forecasting, decision and management of water resources; hydrological models calibration and etc. In this study recession curve were modelled in Taleghan, Jajrod and Khoramdare rivers. At the first by consideration of annul hydrographs, recession Lamb were separated then by doing some pre-processing recession curve get prepared for fitting various models. For each recession eight models were fitted. Result showed that for Jajrod and Talaghan, Barnes, Drogue, Coutagne and Wittenberg had better application, respectively. For Khoramdare river Horton, Barnes and Drogue had better performance with compared to others models. For Barnes model average value of K coefficient for Jajrod 0. 97, 0. 975 and 0. 99, for Taleghan 0. 967, 0. 974 and 0. 987 and for Khoramdare river 0. 931, 0. 945, 0. 972 were obtained.

Abstract:

Long-range guided wave inspection systems are often used in low frequency– thickness ranges below the cut-off frequencies of higher wave modes to simplify data interpretation. In this paper, the potential of high-order guided wave modes for the inspection of plate structures is considered. The characteristics of high-order Lamb wave modes and their corresponding sensitivity and detectability are investigated. Using a commercially available software package, finite element simulations are carried out to model the propagation of A1 and S1 wave modes in steel plate. Using a variable angle transducer, experimental pulse– echo measurements are also conducted to evaluate the measurement errors when implementing higher order modes A1 and S1 on a 2-mm thick steel plate at 4 MHz. mm. Experimental measurements show that when using S1 mode for short-range measurements, the relative error is less than 10%.
