ZEOLITES, DEFINED AS CRYSTALLINE AND POROUS ALUMINOSILICATES (OR OTHER METAL OXIDES), POSSESS THREE-DIMENSIONALLY CONNECTED FRAMEWORK STRUCTURES CONSTRUCTED FROM CORNERSHARING TO4 TETRAHEDRA, WHERE T IS ANY TETRAHEDRALLY COORDINATED CATION SUCH AS SI OR AL [1].THE FORMULA, SYMMETRY AND STRUCTURE OF SAMPLES OF DIFFERENT SI- AL RATIO, NA CONTENT AND THE SOURCE OF SILICA WERE FOUND TO BE DIFFERENT IN STRUCTURE, TOPOLOGY, SIZE OF PARTICLES, …. UP TO NOW, MANY KIND OF SILICA SOURCES USED FOR SYNTHESIS OF NAA ZEOLITE. BUT, TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE, THERE IS NO REFERENCES FOR SYNTHESIS OF ZEOLITE NAA FROM SLAG.THEREFORE, IN THIS WORK, SYNTHESIS OF NAA ZEOLITE FROM SLAG WAS INVESTIGED. SLAG IS USUALLY A MIXTURE OF METAL OXIDES AND SILICON DIOXIDE. HOWEVER, SLAGS CAN CONTAIN METAL SULFIDES AND METAL ATOMS IN THE ELEMENTAL FORM [2].THE SLAG USED IN THIS WORK WAS CHARACTERIZED BY X-RAY FLUORESCENCE (XRF) AND THE RESULTS SHOWN THAT SLAG IS CONTAINS 31.21%SIO2 AND 5.60% AL2O3. SIO2 WAS EXTRACTED FROM SLAG IN ACIDIC MEDIA AND EXTRACTION EFFICIENCY WAS OBTAINED 30% [3]. ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS, THE SLAG WASUSED EFFECTIVELY AS A NEW SOURCE OF SILICA FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF NAA ZEOLITE. THE SYNTHESIZED NAA ZEOLITE IN PURE PHASE HAS BEEN SYNTHESIZED FROM A GEL ALUMINOSILICATE WITH HIGH ALKALINITY AT LOW TEMPERATURE, WITHOUT ADDING ANY ORGANIC ADDITIVES. ALSO, THE EFFECTS OF CRYSTALLIZATION TIME, REACTION TEMPERATURE, AND SIO2/AL2O3, NA2O/H2O RATIOS, IN THE INITIAL SYNTHETIC MIXTURE ON THE CRYSTALLIZATION OF NAA ZEOLITE WERE STUDIED. THE CRYSTALLIZATION OF NAA ZEOLITE FROM SLAG WAS CHARACTERIZED BY X-RAY DIFFRACTION (XRD), SCANING ELECTERON MICROSCOPY (SEM), AND FT-IR TECHNIQUES. THE SEM IMAGE OF MICROPOROUS SILICA (NAA) SHOWS SPHERICAL PARTICLES WITH AVERAGE DIAMETER OF 500 NM.
