Abstract: 

This study was aimed to investigate the effects of pomegranate (Punica granatum) seed kernel meal (pskm) as a supplement in the diet of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), The experiment was carried out  in growth in a period of 90 days since the 12.11.2014 until the 12.03.2015 in Abzi Eksir Koesar complex , situated in south east of Tehran. 600 fingerlings with average weight of 6.74 gram and average length of 5.50 centimeter were divided to five treatments, The control group was without any pskm, and the other groups with added 1, 2, 3 and 4 percent pskm Respectively. For greater certainty each treatments had three replicates. Result indicated that pskm caused highest increased growth parameters in treatment 3 with 3 percent pskm, with other treatments and groups. growth parameters including weight with maximum of 47.74 gram , length were 15.03 centimeter ,weight gain with maximum of 41.15 gram, length increase with the maximum of 9.71 centimeter, Weight gain percentage with maximum amount of 572.1, specific growth rate with 0.45 and specific length rate with 0.1 mm. All growth parameters with the best value was seen in treatments 3.This result is due to the presence of high levels of appetite stimulants such as polyphenols of pskm (p<0.05). Result also indicated that the level of pskm in treatment 4, did not cause enough different with the control group, mainly because of higher amount of tannin in their diet.

Abstract: 

Background and Objective: Pomegranate peel contains many compounds of glycosides, flavonoids and anthocyanins. Candida albicans is the commonest cause for oral fungal infections in individuals with immune system deficiency and people with diabetes. This study was an endeavor to illustrate the effects of pomegranate peel on some blood parameters including creatinine, urea, total protein, albumin, and liver enzymes AST, ALT and ALP in rats infected with Candida albicans.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study 30 male Wistar rats were allocated to six groups of five. In the control group, the diabetic rats were contaminated by an infectious dose of fungus Candida albicans. Then, the rats were treated with dissolved extract of itraconazole in drinking water. The remaining four groups received pomegranate peel extract dissolved in drinking water at doses of 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg according to their body weight for 7 days 24 hours. The effectiveness of pomegranate peel extract was compared with itraconazole. Their weight was measured on days zero and seven.Results: The results showed a significant increase in the plasma concentration of albumin and total protein levels than the control group (p<0.01). Liver enzymes decreased in a dose dependent manner according to the concentration changes (p<0.001).Conclusion: The administration of pomegranate peel extract showed significant improvement in oral Candidiasis lesions and repair of mucosal tissue. However, the presence of flavonoids and alkaloids in Punicaceae plants has negative effect on biomedical parameters and lead to disorders in functioning of vital organs.

Abstract: 

This research has been done to find out optimize process conditions for producing pomegranate juice powder by spray dryer. To do so a pilot scale spray dryer was used and the effects of different parameters were determined. The result show that Malt dextrin with De=6 as drying aid with fruit juice to Malt dextrin ratio equal to 65/35 and %0.3 zincstearate for free flowing state give best product quality. Dryer chamber temperature was 120 degree of centigrade, atomizer rpm was 1400, input to output air temperature was 170/103 and feed flow rate was 36 CC/MIN. Properties of pomegranate juice and pomegranate juice powder were analyzed and has been reported.

Abstract: 

Carob moth, Ectomyelois ceratoniae Zeller (Lep.: Pyralidae) is considered as the most important pest of pomegranate in Iran causing serious damages up to 80% at pre and post harvesting stages. In this study larval parasitoids of carob moth were collected from three regions of production sites of pomegrante namely: Varamin, Qom, and Saveh during 2007. Eight species were collected from Varamin, 7 species from Qom and 4 collected from Saveh. The braconid, Apanteles myeloenta Wilkinson was the most prevalent species among the collected parasitoids which could be found in all the sites of study. The emergence peak of parasitoids occurred at the end of the cropping season (September). Parasitism started in Varamin from Aug., being continued until Oct. It prevailed from July until Oct in Qom and from Aug. until Oct. in Saveh. The highest diversity of parasitoids and the most parasitism percentage level was observed in Varamin. The highest percentage of fruits attacked by E. ceratoniae was found in the near harvest, period, starting in Oct. The percentage of infested fruits in the agricultural season was approximately 69.25% in Varamin, 47% in Qom and 56.25% in Saveh during October. This is the first report of parasitism of carob moth larvae by all species belonging to Ichneumonidae, Chelenus sp. (Hym.: Braconiade) and Fischeria bicolor (Dip.: Tachinidae) in the world. According to the obtained results, diversity of parasitoids and parasitism percentage of carob moth larvae is so considerable that many further studies on their control, and the conservating methods of the valuable natural treasures that can fall prey to them should be conducted.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Pomegranate tree has been originated in east Asia and Iran. The consumption of pomegranate is curative and prevents many sicknesses, therefore pomegranate has a special place in human diet. Materials and Methods: In this investigation, the effect of foliar spray application of different forms of Zinc in different concentrations on some characteristics of pomegranate fruit, has been studied. The application of spray was carried out during May and July of 2016. This study was at based on a randomized complete block design with seven treatments and three replications. Zinc sulphate fertilizer and nano-Zn chelate fertilizer were applied in 500, 1000 and 1500 mgl-1 concentrations. Results: The application of 500 mgl-1 nano-Zn chelate significantly increased fruits grains weight and fresh weight of 100 grains. 1500 mgl-1 ZnSO4 increased the pH, total acidity and ascorbic acid contents of the juice but 500 mgl-1 nano-Zn chelate had a toxic effect on all of the factors and decreased them. 1000 mgl-1 ZnSO4 significantly increased anthocyanin and EC of the juice, although 1500 mgl-1 nano-Zn chelate decreased anthocyanin and 500 mgl-1 nano-Zn chelate decreased EC. TSS and TSS/TA was increased by 500 mgl-1 ZnSO4 whereas 1500 mgl-1 nano-Zn chelate decreased both of them. Conclusion: Although different concentrations of ZnSO4 fertilizer improve the chemical characteristics of pomegranate fruit, but totally the best foliar spray application is at 500 mgl-1 nano-Zn chelate.
