Abstract:

Background: Due to the marked increase in the burden of cancer both in the developed and developing countries, World Health Organization recommends planning and implementation of comprehensive cancer control program in all countries. We evaluated evolutionary progress of the population based cancer REGISTRIES (PBCR), an essential component of the cancer control program. Methods: We studied frequency and coverage of cancer REGISTRIES worldwide in overall and stratified by regions and countries, using the data published in the "Cancer in Five Continents (CI5)" volume I-IX. Using the population proportion of the study unit as the weight, we estimated weighted average of the registration coverage in the studied countries and regions. Results: We found that coverage of cancer registry is increasing worldwide. In overall, 224 PBCRs estimate cancer incidence in 19.6% of world population. While the coverage was almost complete in the western countries, some counties particularly in Africa and Asia lack even a single cancer registry. The lowest coverage was generally observed in Africa (1.4%) and Southeastern Asia (2%). Using information technology, lead to a considerable increase in the coverage of cancer REGISTRIES in the US, where it increased from 14% percent in 1997 to 96% in 2002.Conclusion: Developing countries must prioritize establishment of cancer registration system. Looking at the developed countries with well functioning REGISTRIES may help establish an efficient registration system in developing countries. Using advance information technology will help achieve an efficient and optimal PBCR.

Abstract:

Background: Data management related to eye injuries is vital in improving care process, improving treatment and implementing preventive programs. Implementation of a registry to manage data is an integral part of this process. This systematic review aimed to identify processes related to eye injury REGISTRIES. Methods: Databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Embase and Scopus were used in searching for articles from 2010 to Oct 2020 using the keywords “, eye injuries”,and”,registry”, . The identified processes related to eye injuries registry such as case finding, data collection, abstracting, reporting, follow-up and data quality control are presented in this review. Results: Of 1493 articles retrieved, 30 articles were selected for this study based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Majority of these studies were conducted in the United States. All REGISTRIES had case finding and the most common resources for case finding included medical documents, reports and screening results. Moreover, majority of REGISTRIES collected data electronically. However, few REGISTRIES used data quality attributes to improve the data collected. Conclusion: Eye injury registry plays an important role in the management of eye injury data and as a result, better management of these data will be established. Taking into consideration that the quality of collected data has a vital role in adopting prevention strategies, it is essential to use high-quality data and quality control methods in planning and designing eye injury REGISTRIES.

Abstract:

Background: Poisoning is a common condition worldwide that requires precise evaluation of the quality and rapid management. Registry plays an essential role in the management of toxins. This study aimed to examine the features and processes of poisoning REGISTRIES. Methods: This review study was conducted in 2020. Several searches were conducted in the following scientific databases: PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science using a combination of keywords, such as “ data management, registry, poison, and toxic” . The review of titles, abstracts, and full-text of the selected articles was independently performed by two researchers. Besides, the obtained data were analyzed based on the research objectives by the content analysis method. Results: Some critical features of REGISTRIES were considered the confidentiality of patients’ information, i. e., equipped with various technologies, such as Geographical Information System (GIS), warning systems, searches, and text retrieval tools. The most common sources of case findings were self-reported contacts by individuals and healthcare professionals to poison control centers. Moreover, the main tool for data collection was electronic forms. The major indices of data quality were the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the data. Phone calls were usually made at follow-ups. Conclusion: The registry’ s features and processes are an essential and fundamental step to achieve the registry goals, as well as designing and developing these systems. It is recommended that the REGISTRIES be equipped with various technologies to better manage the exposure cases. It is recommended to use educational, incentive, competitive, participatory, and motivational mechanisms among all organizations and individuals involved in poisoning registry programs.

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: It is more than 5 decades that hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been used for treatment of hematologic malignancies, metabolic disordes, and immunodeficiencies. (HLA) -matched HSCT is commonly the preferred type of transplantation, with HLA-matched sibling donors usually the first choice. If there is no related HLA-matched donor, unrelated matched donors are considered.Materials and Methods: The present article shows the importance of unrelated stem cell donor REGISTRIES, related regulations and policies, HSCT history, the importance of donor-recipient HLA matching to GVHD inhibition, several donor selection measures, establishment requirements of such REGISTRIES in the world and Iran, using 29 different references in order to introduce these centers to interested researchers. Results: These REGISTRIES rely on positive feelings of unrelated donors to altruistic donation to save patients. REGISTRIES from different countries joined and established world and international donor associations and groups to facilitate finding a suitable donor and improve the HSCT outcomes from unrelated donors. Conclusions: Huge progress has been made since the first HSCT to save many patients indebted to the efforts of a few pioneers, group collaborations, and international exchanges of stem cell practiced by international organizations which follow definite standards.

Abstract:

We were delighted to read the six commentaries addressing our scoping review1 and comparative analysis of neurotrauma data dictionaries from the national REGISTRIES of low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). The correspondents have expanded our consideration of the challenges and opportunities inherent to the use of national trauma REGISTRIES as a vital tool in advancing neurotrauma surveillance. Herein, we endeavor to respond to the queries raised by the commentators, and highlight common themes raised by their thoughtful correspondences.
