Reptiles, such as green iguana (Iguana iguana), have become increasingly common domestic pets worldwide (Ratajet al.2011). Ectoparasites, chiefly mites, are the main cause of dermatological lesions in reptiles (Terrell and Stacy 2007). Trombiculidae, Macronyssidae and Pterygosomatidae are the important mite families infesting reptiles (Moriello 1995).....

Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor, 1954) is a predatory mite in temperate and subtropical regions around the world (Frauloet al.2008; Demite et al.2016) and is commercially reared to control spider mites (Jolly 2000; Easterbrooket al.2001). The outdoor populations of this predatory mite has been reported from many countries with warm temperature (Demiteet al.2016). Close to Iran, in neighbouring Turkey, it was found in an area close to the Aegean Sea with mild winter temperature (Ç akmak and Ç obanoğlu 2006) and Syria at Latakia, close to the Mediterranean Sea (Barbar 2014)....

When Gerd Alberti died on November 9th 2016, after a short but serious illness, science lost an outstanding zoologist and one of its leading acarologists. His influential work is documented in more than 200 publications in peer reviewed journals and congress proceedings, 20 books and book chapters and several popular science contributions. Major interest was on ultrastructure and microanatomy of invertebrates with a special focus on chelicerates, and mites in particular.
