Background: Determining a relationship between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the ECG findings of the patients with this disease can assist in early diagnosis and patient management based on these findings. This study aimed to investigate whether COVID-19 patients had characteristic ECG findings in the acute period. Methods: A total of 124 patients were divided into two groups as those diagnosed with COVID-19 and controls. The ECGs of these patients were evaluated in terms of rate, rhythm, presence of ST changes, PR interval, QRS width, QTc and QT interval, and presence of right and left bundle branch blocks. Results: On the ECG, the median heart rate of the COVID-19 patients was 104/min (IQR: 99– 114), and there was a significant difference compared to the control group (P < 0. 001). The median PR interval was 157/ms, the QRS width was 86 ± 9/ms in the COVID-19 patients, with no significant difference compared to the controls (P = 0. 161 and P = 0. 631, respectively). The median QT interval of the COVID-19 patients was normal (400/ms), but a significant difference was detected compared to the controls (P = 0. 005). The QTc, ST change, AF, and presence of right and left bundle branch blocks were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: Considering the importance of ECG findings in order to diagnose COVID-19 disease early, we can state that sinus tachycardia is very common in COVID-19 patients, but there is no characteristic ECG finding for COVID-19, including tachycardia.

Background: The signal-averaged ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY is a noninvasive method to evaluate the presence of the potentials generated by tissues activated later than their usual timing in the cardiac cycle. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the correlation between the filtered QRS duration obtained via the signal-averaged ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY and left ventricular dimensions and volumes and then to compare it with the standard ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY.Methods: We included patients with advanced systolic left ventricular dysfunction (ejection fraction ≤ 35%). All the patients underwent surface twelve-lead ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY, signal-averaged ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY, and echocardiography. Results: The study included 86 patients with a mean age of 54.66±13.23 years. The mean left ventricular ejection fraction was 18.31±5.49%; the mean QRS duration was 0.14±0.02 sec; and 52% of the patients had left bundle branch block. The mean filtered QRS duration was 145.87±24.89 ms. Our data showed a significant linear relation between the filtered QRS duration and left ventricular end-systolic volume, left ventricular end-diastolic volume, left ventricular end-systolic diameter, and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter; the correlation coefficient was, however, not good. There was no significant correlation between the QRS duration and left ventricular diameters and volumes. Conclusion: The filtered QRS duration has a better correlation with left ventricular dimensions and volumes than does the QRS duration in the standard ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY.

Background: The aim of the current study was to assess the value of simultaneous EKG with EEG to diagnose cardiac disorders in patients with seizure- like attacks and to investigate the extent of misdiagnosis of epilepsy.Materials and Methods: 210 patients presenting with transient loss of consciousness (TLoC) and paroxysmal events suspicious to seizure were studied. All patients had undergone EEG simultaneous with an EKG. Besides reporting the EEG, a cardiologist analyzed the EKG in an attempt to recognize abnormal EKG as a potential cause of TLoC. Moreover, in all patients it was ascertained if any cardiac disorders in patients and their first degree relatives had been diagnosed. Results: Sixteen out of two hundred ten (7.6%) patients had abnormal EKG which was significantly potential cause of symptom of whom 6 patients were found to have bradycardia and 10 patients had dysrhythmias. Moreover, in patients with previous cardiovascular disorder, 30.4% had abnormal EKG where as in patients without cardiac disease only 4.8% had EKG abnormalities. Besides in patients with positive family history for cardiac disease 20.3% had abnormal EKG while in patients without family history of cardiac disease, abnormal EKG was revealed in only 2.05% patients. Conclusion: Simultaneous EKG with EEG is valuable in declining rate of misdiagnosis of epilepsy. Besides, EKG abnormalities in these patients have a significant association with any previous cardiovascular disorders in the patients and in their first degree relatives.

Background Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases. Over the last decades the hypothesis of cardiovascular effects from sudden seizure has been raised, and cardiac rhythm and ECG changes in these patients have been highlighted. The study aimed to evaluate the ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY findings in children with epilepsy compared with healthy children. Materials and Methods In this case-control study, 90 patients aged between 6 months and 18 years who were matched with equal number of healthy children who referred to pediatric ward the of 'Ali Ebne Abi Talib' hospital in Zahedan, Iran. The study was performed in multicenter of Neurology and Cardiology centers. In the patients, the epilepsy was confirmed by a unique pediatric neurologist based on the definition of having at least two unprovoked seizures in 24 hours. ECG was captured from all participants by a pediatric cardiologist. Results In patients, 45. 6% (n= 41) were females and in healthy 51. 1% (n= 46) were females. Mean age of participants was similar in patients and healthy children (p=0. 060). ECG findings such as QT min (p=0. 001), R-R interval (p<0. 001), Heart rate (p<0. 001), S in V1 (p=0. 002), R in aVL (p<0. 001), S in V3 (p=0. 003), QTd (p<0. 001), QTcd (p<0. 001), QTc max (p<0. 001), and LV mass (p=0. 007) were different in patients compared to controls. In patients, from ECG parameters, R in V5 was higher in male patients (p=0. 043). Conclusion Based on the results, QTc, QTd, QTcd were prolonged in patients with epilepsy and, R in V5 was higher in male patients. To prevent abnormality rhythm in epilepsy, it is needed to evaluate QT to recognize the autonomic changes.
