چکیده: 

In this paper, recommended spiral passive micromixer was designed and simulated. spiral design has the potential to create and strengthen the centrifugal force and the secondary flow. A series of simulations were carried out to evaluate the effects of channel width, channel depth, the gap between loops, and flowrate on the micromixer performance. These features impact the contact area of the two fluids and ultimately lead to an increment in the quality of the mixture. In this study, for the flow rate of 25 μl/min and molecular diffusion coefficient of 1×10-10 m2/s, mixing efficiency of more than 90% is achieved after 30 (approximately one-third of the total channel length). Finally, the optimized design fabricated using proposed 3D printing method.

چکیده: 

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is one of the most successful techniques of Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and is mostly in use for the treatment of infertility with male factors. In this method, before injecting sperm into the intracytoplasmic of the oocyte, cumulus cells around the oocyte must be stripped to facilitate the injection process. To achieve this, both enzymatic and mechanical methods are used in embryological laboratories for denudation, which has major deficiencies, including the possibility of damaging the oocyte prior to the injection process. In this research, a MICROFLUIDIC-based device is introduced for the separation of cumulus cells around the oocyte with minimum manual operations. The results prove high efficiency, and non-destructive denudation of the oocyte with the reduced amount of culture medium leads to the low-cost preparation process of oocytes. The process can also be integrated with ICSI chips under development and will be reported shortly.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020. The implementation of new technological tools can improve prevention strategies, diagnostics, and treatment systems for this group of diseases. MICROFLUIDIC devices like Organs on a Chip are being considered a rising approach in biological cancer studies. They involve volumes down to less than microliters and usually do not require specialized machinery and materials to be produced. Therefore, they are potentially used in clinical settings without restriction. In addition, MICROFLUIDIC platforms have a high potential for mimicking biological conditions. They are recognized as promising tools in cancer fields like single cell detection, fluid biopsy, drug screening modeling, angiogenesis, and metastasis. This review describes the fabrication methods and application of MICROFLUIDIC platforms in cancer therapy.
