Abstract

Due to the valuable place of light in Islamic art and its direct relationship with theological concepts, the most complete re-reading of the manifestations of light can be done on prayer spaces. This research was performed by descriptive-analytic method. In order to discuss scale of day light estimation in historical mosques, three mosques were discussed from historical ones and the amount of natural daylight received from skylights on the hottest and coldest day of the year at 12 noon with the use of light brightness was analyzed by Max Design fragility software at the level of plan and observer vision. Analysis results showed that the ultimate goal in all three mosques is to create a spiritual atmosphere and unite the worshipers under the divine light, which is equally distributed in the space of Salimiyeh Mosque, and in the dark space of Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque and Cordoba Mosque as light effects, more significant than the direct presence of light Manifests. aims of research 1. Discover the principles and laws of lighting and the role of skylights in the distribution of natural light in historic Islamic mosques. 2. Analysis of quantitative and qualitative presence of light in the studied samples. research questions 1. What is the relationship between the architecture of the space and the form of skylights in spiritualizing the space in Islamic mosques (Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Selimiyeh Mosque and Cordoba Mosque)? 2. What factors play a role in the quality and quantity of light in historic mosques?
