Abstract

The cultivars of Medicago saliva (semirchenskaya, Yazdi, Ranger, Gharehyonjeh, Hamadani, Yoltanyskaya, Kerisari, Bonab, Bami, Kodi) were compared for herbage production, leaf percentage and height. The experiments were conducted in south of Alborz mountain (Taleghan region) with 475.5 mm annual precipitation in a complete block design. In the first year (3 years) the differences were not significant. In general, Medicago saliva cv. Bonab had the highest herbage yield (972.4 kg/ha) and Medicago saliva cv. Yazdi produced the lowest herbage yield (730 kg/ha).Leaf percentage in herbage of Medicago saliva cv. bami was 49.7% but in Medicago saliva cv. hamadani was about 43y. The average plant height of this species was different among the cultivars.... Gharehyonjeh had 69.4 cm and Medicago saliva cv. Semirchenskaya had 56.3 cm height.Overall studies indicated that Medicago saliva cv. Bonab is a suitable cultivar for southern Alborz mountain (Taleghan region).
